about this farm

La Marquesa

In the heart of Vilcabamba, a small paradise in southern Loja, Ecuador, lies Finca La Marquesa.

At 1,700 meters above sea level, La Marquesa enjoys a privileged position that grants the farm more hours of sunlight, which helps increase the coffee’s Brix levels, its natural sweetness, and combined with ideal climate and soil conditions, produces beans with unique sweetness and complexity.

The heart of this story is Ximena León, a passionate producer who has turned La Marquesa into a true laboratory of coffee excellence. Together with her son Hubert Ontaneda, they craft differentiated processes that travel from this valley to the most demanding cups in the world.

But La Marquesa’s magic also has deep roots. At 90 years old, Albertina Toledo, Ximena’s grandmother, still hand-selects coffee cherries with the same dedication she’s had for decades. For her, this task is not just work, it’s a daily purpose, a living bridge between the farm’s past and present.

At La Marquesa, every bean carries the spirit of the Valley of Longevity: time, patience, and love for the land. And when it reaches your cup, it brings with it a story of family, heritage, and Ecuadorian excellence.

Our direct trade relationship ensures farmers are paid above market rates while protecting the valley’s fragile ecosystems.
